MindsEye produce Youtube Sketch Series for internet star Hayley Morris.
They say that the revolution won’t be televised, it’ll be broadcast straight to our phones in the form of a funny TikTok short. But the newfound dominance of social media hasn’t stopped the stars of the internet striving for the quality and production value of traditional media.
Hayley Morris is one of social media’s biggest stars. 2 million followers on Instagram. 1.8 million subscribers on Youtube. A TikTok audience of over 4.7 million. Her relatable mini-sketches, often shot in her home starring herself alongside herself, have garnered her an enormous and dedicated following, as well as the opportunities to appear on Channel 4 TV shows and to write and publish her own book ‘Me vs Brain.’
All the while though, Hayley has been interested in levelling up the production value of her sketches and producing content more in line with the TV comedy that inspired her. This led her to chat to MindsEye, who teamed her with EyeCandy director Mike Upson to produce a Youtube series of several sketches that married the relatable comedy which made her famous, with a more filmic style.
Hayley and MindsEye have since produced four sketches together, three directed by Mike and one by Ben Hector. They’ve co-starred the likes of Graham Dickson, Jack Barry and Ed Jones, and have gone on to amass hundreds of thousands of views and appear in comedy festivals such as Hollyshorts, DC Shorts and Hollywood Shorts Fest.
“TikTok has changed the face of mainstream sketch comedy. The majority of sketch comedy made now isn’t done by a team of writers or a film crew, it’s done by one person with a phone. And that’s great. Hayley’s especially brilliant at it,” said Mike. “But what we wanted to do was prove that there’s still a place for high-production value, low-cost sketch comedy. We wanted to bring that old school, more committed and traditional approach into the modern day. Modern style and visual sensibilities, paired with funny, dumb, relatable gags. Sketch comedy for now!
“Collaborating with Hayley on these has been loads of fun. Coming up with jokes and figuring out how to pull these off in a way that’s equally funny and cool has been really rewarding. It’s been great working with her and the brilliant comedians that we’ve bought on board to co-star.”
Check out all four sketches: Love & Loss, Night Terrors, Hangry and Tick Tock Boom, on Hayley’s youtube channel.
