A home for big industry names, before they've become big industry names.

Our partners across the pond

Screen International has revealed its 2025 line-up for the prestigious Stars of Tomorrow, highlighting 20 rising stars across acting and filmmaking in the UK and Ireland. Amongst them, our very own Matty Crawford.

Now in its 22nd year, the annual talent programme has an unparalleled track record for identifying emerging UK and Irish talent, both in front of and behind the camera, since its launch in 2004. It’s included talent like John Boyega, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Florence Pugh, Jodie comer, Jessie Buckley, Ncuti Gatwa, Paul Mescal and Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd.

Joining those esteemed ranks this year is the superbly talented Matty Crawford, off the back of his thrilling and unsettling, BAFTA nominated body-horror short, Stomach Bug

“The first thing I said to BBC Film when I pitched it was, ‘I want to make something that makes you throw up and cry,’” said Matty Crawford to ScreenDaily on Stomach Bug. The short was his first dive into horror. Before then he’d made intimate dramas inspired by his UK-Filipino upbringing.

“Horror felt more truthfully like something I wanted to make,” says Crawford, who is developing his feature debut – which he describes as a colonial folk horror – with BBC Film and Galazia Productions. “It still feels very personal, but the genre allows me a layer of objectivity.

“For my first feature, I want to take some big swings, even if I fuck up and miss,” declares Crawford. “I appreciate films that take the big swings because even if they miss, at least they’re trying something.”

Matty is represented here at MindsEye for commercial and music video work. Check out a clip from Stomach Bug below.
